Application Procedure for International Students

Applicants educated outside Canada must submit GRE (Graduate Record Examination) scores. (Even if you are a Domestic Student, but you have done all of your studies outside of Canada, you must submit the official GRE general exam scores to the departmental office). In addition, visa applicants whose primary language is not English must submit English Language Proficiency test scores. Further details and specific instructions will be provided with the application form.

Official transcripts must be mailed directly to the department.

GRE and TOEFL scores must be sent directly to the institution.

For GRE and TOEFL:  The institutional code is 0982

The equivalent of at least 1 full course (2 semesters in length) in Immunology, third year courses in biochemistry and molecular biology and some laboratory experience is recommended. Note: Students may be admissible with fewer than 1 full course in Immunology. Students with a strong background in physics, chemistry, biological or biomedical sciences are especially encouraged to apply even if they have fewer than the suggested number of immunology courses. However remedial coursework may be required as specified by the Graduate Coordinator in consultation with the student and supervisor.

If your primary language is not English and you graduated from a non-Canadian university where the language of instruction is not English, then you must demonstrate your facility in English by completing one of the tests listed below. This requirement should be met at the time you submit your application. We prefer the TOEFL, however we will consider other tests if necessary.

  • TOEFL scores: The minimum requirement for the Department of Immunology is 93/120 for an overall score and 22/30 for both writing and speaking. The overall score of 93 is considered by the department to be equivalent to 580 (paper-based) or 237 (computer-based) on the current test. The writing section score of 22 equates roughly to a score of 5.0 on the Test of Written English (TWE).
